Outpatient Counseling
Treatment that fits around your life
Outpatient counseling means scheduled therapy sessions that let you receive treatment while continuing with work, school or family responsibilities. You do not move in. You come to appointments and go home.
For most people this is the deciding factor. Losing a job or leaving children in order to get treatment is not a realistic trade, and being asked to make it is why a lot of people never start.
What is included
- Sessions with licensed counselors trained in addiction treatment
- Cognitive-behavioral and motivational approaches
- Focus on identifying triggers and building coping strategies
- Flexible scheduling including evening availability
- Progress tracking and treatment plan updates
Can I keep working during treatment?
Yes — that is what outpatient care is designed for. Appointments are scheduled, including evenings, and your plan is built around your availability rather than the other way round.
Your treatment records are protected health information. We do not contact your employer. If you need documentation for leave or an employee assistance program, we can provide it, but only at your request and with your written consent.
Who outpatient counseling suits
Outpatient counseling is appropriate for individuals who have a stable living environment and can commit to a regular treatment schedule. If your housing is unstable, or if withdrawal needs medical management first, a different level of care may be the right starting point — and our assessment will say so plainly rather than enrolling you in something that will not work.
What happens in a session
Sessions are conversations, not interrogations. Early on the work is usually practical: identifying the situations, people and feelings that precede use, and building specific responses to them. Later it tends to move toward the things underneath — relationships, grief, work, self-image.
Counseling pairs naturally with medication-assisted treatment. Medication creates the stability; counseling is what you do with it.
Paying for treatment
We accept West Virginia Medicaid, private insurance and self-pay. WV Medicaid requires prior authorization for most substance use disorder services — we complete that paperwork for you as part of intake.
